Spring is coming, I can feel it in the air. Green is coming back into the world and I love that. I was inspired by the gorgeous warming weather to create this Spring Flowers Burlap and Lace Banner. It super easy and fun to make. I had some leftover burlap from my snow banner. I also had some stencils that my daughter had used for one of her projects, yep, the crafting bug runs in the family. They are so cute I couldn’t resist using them.
I made a printable pattern for you to print off if you choose to. You can get it HERE. Cut out as many triangles as you would like depending on the size you want. I use felt to back my flags, it just makes them lay flatter and they seem to be more sturdy. Plus whatever you put on them shows up so much better especially if you are going to paint on them.
I use a glue gun to attach the pieces together, it makes assembling the flags quick and easy. You certainly could sew them if that is your preference, I haven’t tried that method yet but I am sure it would work out fine. My burlap already had the lace attached, I kept the lace for my snow banner, but I removed the lace for this one. Add any trim and lace that you want. The possibilities are endless when it comes to what to add to your banner, make it unique, make it yours.
So I mentioned I had these stencils already so that is what I used for this one but you could easily make fabric or ribbon flowers, use buttons or other cute little things you have on hand. I used acrylic craft paints in my chosen colors.
After finishing the painting with the stencils I decided that it needed a little something more to finish it up. I had this paint pen and used it to add some polka dots and that did the trick, a cute little finishing touch of whimsy. I found this pen at Walmart and it is super easy to use and not messy at all.
I then attached the flags to some jute cord that I measured to the length I wanted. I attached the flags by gluing the jute to the back of the flag and folding the top of the flag down over the jute and gluing it down securely. That’s it, super easy and quick to make. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, please let me know how it turns out for you. I love hearing from you all.
